So the master plan for this is to send as many people as possible to the worlds this year, because competing internationally always improves people's paddling no end and really motivates people to get better. The team will be relatively weak, because not many people are competing in Ireland at the moment and the people who are mostly aren't very good, and there are probably more open spots on it than there are people who want to go. At the moment it looks like Paddlesurf Ireland willl be able to cover accommodation for the trip and competition entry, plus any fundraising that's done between now and then. The rest of the trip will be funded by the competitors themselves.

All this is happening because in two years time, the worlds are more than likely going to be on in Northern Ireland. It'll be cheap to get to, we can send a full team, and we'll have a chance of doing well in the overall team competition. So hopefully, sending as many people as possible to Spain this year will kick-start some progression towards having some properly decent surfers in two years time! ...that's not saying that the people who go this year are committing to going again in two years time, but hopefully it'll kick off more of a general sort of progression among the paddlesurf community in Ireland.

What all this means for you guys, is if anyone manages to go to the comp in March, and do a decent bit of surfing between now and July, there's a very real chance of getting a cheap holiday on a beach in Spain over the summer, and being able to say that you competed for Ireland in kayaking for the rest of your life!

Mark, you've probably done as much surf kayaking as some of the guys who are thinking of going over, would you be interested? Niall Crosbie, how about you?

Jemma, Alison; Aisling Griffin is currently the only girl who's competing so we need to find a few more somewere, would ye think of getting more into it?!
