It sounds like we have some interest in doing a REC3 course in the near future and so Eoin Howard will look into having one run as soon as possible. Could everyone who is interested in doing the course post below.

For those of you who don't know this stands for; Rescue Emergency Care 3 and is a weekend course teaching first aid skills aimed at outdoor peoples like us. It looks at what to have in your first aid kit, how to use it and how to deal with all the situations a regular first aid course would but using what you would realistically have with you on a river. It is massively beneficial and for anyone who is pushing Level 4 standard or hopes to become a leader within the club it is all fantastic knowledge to have. At this course you also have the opportunity to receive CPR and defibrillator training and so can also come away with a Cardiac First Responder qualification.

Whether this is something you want to help you advance as a river leader or just to have this knowledge for your daily life the course will be of a great benefit to you. The course is usually atleast €150 for the 3 days but by doing it through the club a subsidy will apply and it will be under €100. As said above Eoin will be looking to arrange one so if you are interested in taking part post below. If anyone has any questions about the course just ask Eoin or myself. Thanks.

Any chance of a refresher? I know a lot of us need to have one done.

Sheep, like all wool-bearing animals, instinctively travel north, where it's colder, and they won't be so stuffy.

The people who haven't done a refresher within 3 years after completing the full course will have to re sit the whole course just so people know.

They can be leanient within about 2-3 months I was told but after that you have to re do the full course.

Also they may be changing the time limit from 3 to 2 years in the near future.

I'm up for it, but I won't be able to get off work for it, so it will be interesting to see the schedule.

I'm a lot over the 3 year limit too..

I'd like to do a refresher too please.

Mark I'm a good bit over 3 years too but I'm sure it still counts. You have to attend the entire weekend as a refresher now anyway so it makes no difference!

The refresher course is a day less then doing the full course and is cheaper. The question is will you be allowed do a refresher if your over the 3 years.

Everything that I said in my last post was said to me by Barry last semester.
