To any new members here lies a thread on which ye can introduce yourselves to the ULKC online community!

To all current members this is your opportunity to introduce thineselves to the newest members to join ULKC!

There exists only one rule on this thread: That every post must contain the most ridiculous gif you can possibly find on the web. Something that may or may not describe anything about you...but something we can all have a good chuckle at!

Without further ado... My name is Eoin Farrell. I enjoy impersonating monkeys and dressing up as Batman. I shall start this "gif roll" with the following...

Enjoy!

Hey Guys,

My names Andrew, started kayaking 5 years ago as a Galway man but loving it down here in UL and hanging out with ULKC. I'm currently studying Physical Education and Geography.

I specialize in the freestyle and whitewater disciplines and really enjoy coaching so dont be afraid to ask me for help if you want to improve your skills. Don't let anybody tell you that ball sports don't belong in a field though :)

Only advice I can give is to get involved and do everything you can to get on the trips! Use the swimming pool to practice but the real kayaking and experiences take place on the rivers of Ireland and the rest of the world!

Chat to you all soon!

Hi Everyone!

My name is Eoin, I'm from Limerick, I'm 22 and I've been kayaking for about 10 years! Check out the links below this post for blog posts and videos showing where kayaking can take you, including write-ups and videos from lots of club events.

I paddle whitewater, freestyle, surf, slalom, polo, the occasional flatwater race and I am currently the discipline's officer on the committee! Which means it's my job to encourage you to try out all the different disciplines that I just mentioned. I'll be running talks on Wednesday events on different disciplines and stuff, and I'll be constantly bugging you to come to different events around the country, outside of the usual club trips. There's a forum with all the upcoming events here: viewforum.php?f=85, check it out and post on any that look interesting!

If you have any questions about anything at all, disciplines related or not, come find me. I can usually be found bouncing around the pool in a cow coloured kayak, or just message me here!

I would like to inform Andrew that polo is awesome because it's a ball sport that you can play without having to run a step, and because you play it with kayakers who are famous for sucking at ball sports. So even if you were shite at regular sports in school there's a pretty solid chance you'll be good, or at least average at polo! :P

I leave you with this classic:

Hello my name is Mike,

I started kayaking in 2009. Now I mostly sit around curse at things, drink tasty margaritas and cook stuff on my braai(that's a bbq for you less cultured people).

I occasionally come to events mainly to get drunk with the few members that are left from my days in the club. I also take photos. Lots of photos. In fact you have probably seen some of my photos.

I'm grumpy and don't like loud noises

My name is Gavin. I'm the current club captain so if ye have any questions about anything at all, either drop me a message on this, ask me in person at the pool or add me on Facebook. I'll probably be the person trying idiotic things in the kayaks. I'm a 3rd year Applied Physics student and question my decision to do the course every day! .

I've been paddling for just over 3 years now and I'm interested in most disciplines with freestyle, whitewater and polo probably being the 3 I do most but I have a real soft spot for slalom!

I'm Cathal, and I've been around the club for a long time. I'm originally from Tipperary, but I've been based in Limerick for a good while now. I've been paddling for more than two decades, starting in fiberglass boats in secondary school. Got a few all-Ireland titles to my name from that era as well.

I did my undergrad in UL years back, and I'm completing a taught Masters of Engineering (slowly) at the moment in UL. I'm also working full-time as a Unix Administrator in the Tech Park, on an odd weekend evening shift - that allows me to have Mondays Tuesdays and Wednesdays completely free to paddle.

Back when I was doing the undergrad, I used to be the river leader, in charge of keeping people safe on the water. Then I kinda dropped back from paddling as much as I used to with work and a few other reasons. Then when I came back to the college to do the postgrad, I got back involved with the kayak club as well as the mountainbikers. I'm slowly getting less rusty about the paddling. I've a preference for grade 4 whitewater, clean and fast kayak surfing and a little bit of freestyle (more old-school than new-school though..). I've been known to paddle a K-boat once or twice without capsizing it even if I'm not that fast in it anymore. I've been on 6 ULKC Intervarsity winning teams, and hoping for a seventh..

You'll spot me in the bigger boats (I can't physically fit in the little boats, feet and legs too big) either in the pool or on rivers, with a shaved head and usually sporting a beard these days! I'l l usually be helping out with the coaching in the pool and the rivers, but my speciality is getting people better at rolling their boats. I'm also currently on the Committee, as the Webadmin, keeping all of the computery stuff in the background working. If you have trouble on the forums, I'll usually be the one helping you out.

My gif - something crazy that I'd never have a hope of doing in real life:

My name is Emer and I am the treasurer of the club :) So I will be your port of call for all things money related! I am here to help so feel free to ask me any questions at the pool or if you see me derping around.

I have been kayaking since I was a young one so can answer any questions you may have and help you with anything you may want to learn. I am mostly interested in whitewater kayaking but can be seen doing some freestyle and polo in the pool.

Hope to see ye all around!

Also, I know it is not a gif but I think it is very fitting since I have been known to derp a lot :D

And here is a gif just for good measure.

I like going bowling; I always make my name '3 Testicles' on the board. That way the TV occasionaly says "Congratulations 3 Testicles! You got a spare"

I'm Conor. Been around a while now and only away from the club now for geographical reasons while working for The Man.

I was bred on kayaking and am slowly diversifying my interests while returning to kayaking occasionally as I still love the shit out of it. Anyway....
It only appears to be established members who've replied already. Why is this? If you're scared we won't like how you describe yourself and challenge you to a fight....we kayak better than we fight

I noticed others offered help with kayaking but as I cant offer such skills I will instead offer help with the forementioned dance

Anyhoo... Hello! My Name is Conall (pronounced Con-al... not Cone-al) Sweeney (or MacSuibhne in jibberish)...

...which leads me to the fact that everyone seems to call me Coco, due to the "confusing" nature of my name...

...I'm a smelly teacher from smelly Donegal, so I haven't really been on campus this semester due to smelly teaching practice...

Hi Guys My name is Patrick Brennan
I'm an industrial Biochemistry student in third year who is really enthusiastic about all things kayaking and science related.
I'd like to think that i'm an approachable guy so if you're ever unsure if anything don't be afraid to ask me .
The fact that my coop is in limerick next semester means you'll see me at the pool...... a lot!
In terms of actual ability to paddle i'm reasonable but by no means the best.
Many members are more experienced, more qualified and better paddlers than I am (I've been paddling for only 2 years; since I started college).
I shouldnt be at the top of you're list for paddling advice :?
However if you are a biochemist and you get stuck i'll do my best to help you out.
Finally I leave with two random videos
