Re: IT services discussion thread.

Here's an interesting page from the Wordpress stats for the ULKC webpage. Interesting enough to see where people have accessed us from over the past 3 months.
Worldwide accesses for ULKC for the 90 days previous to March 27th
Worldwide accesses for ULKC for the 90 days previous to March 27th
And here are the visitor page counts since September.

Re: Andrew gets serious...

Andrew - in NUIG there is no equivalent of Skynet, which is why I'm very happy that we have that type of resource available to us for free, as the cost of getting that in the real world is quite expensive. I see the value in having club-private sections and public sections. It was agreed that we'd h...

Re: IT services discussion thread.

Mike, you are not being fair when you say that no committee since 2009 has looked at fixing the website. Either we are looking at different websites or you are being deliberately obtuse. I've brought it back to Skynet from the offsite unmaintained entity that Seamus started but never got a chance to...

Re: IT services discussion thread.

Andrew, NUIG do not have the facility locally that Skynet can provide. We don't have forum spam at the moment because I am staying on top of the administration and implementation of the forum software, and being careful with the new members. I've personally got no problem with the public visibility ...

Re: Andrew gets serious...

The current board configuration is set so that only forum members get to see the information in the forum. It's an easy permissions change to allow guest users access to the forums, but previous committees chose not to allow full unfettered public read access to our stuff. If it's wanted again it wo...

Re: Andrew gets serious...

Mike, you have your professional opinion, that's fine no real questions about that. I also have mine, with more experience and time working on many more forums and website back-ends both as a user and as an admin, giving me direct experience as to what is needed and what works in the real world, and...

Re: Andrew gets serious...

Oh and Mike, as webmin I do have the say on whether or not we would move the website out of our control and away from C&S. Don't forget that you really don't get to tell me whether I have a choice or not, as a) you are not on committee, and b) you aren't an admin for the club. If you really want to ...

Re: Andrew gets serious...

Don't waste your time Mike, you'd be better utilising your skills to do a WordPress skin. No need for a Unix developer, as that's already taken care of by the WordPress community. There's no point at all paying for something that we neither want nor need. If we aren't reaching the limits of WordPres...

Re: Andrew gets serious...

I will not condone the moving of the club's website out of Skynet, full stop. What we have is so much better than what you can pay for, and just because something is a new fad does not mean that it is good (squarespace really falls into the fad category). Support your other clubs and socs when you c...

Re: AGENDA ITEMS WEEK 10

Website already has the capability of more users with rights to add to it, it's just not implemented as there been no need shown for it. PRO has the current access to add to the front page and to edit and add pages, so there would no advantage and plenty of disadvantage to breaking a working system ...

I'd like to go, but can't get the holidays off work for it.

Sounds like it would be an amazing trip with a serious boat-load of craic..
