Ireland is a cold-water Mecca for those that love to play with the ocean waves. ULKC is situated less than two hours’ drive from some of the best reef and beach breaks that the Atlantic Cost can offer. From Lahinch, through Spanish Point, to Dougmore, the West Clare coast can provide ideal kayak-surf conditions for pure beginners through to accomplished international competitors.
Other kayak-surf suitable locations nearby include Inch Beach, Castlegregory and Rossbeigh in Kerry. A little farther afield would include the world-class reef in Easkey.
Our first trip away of the academic year is usually to Lahinch where we take our new members out on the beach break and teach how to surf a kayak. This leads to much amusement as the new kayakers start to figure it all out. There are many tired but really really happy people at the end of the days there!
